Egypt's Aswan
Aswan
Just south of the wonders of Luxor, find the equally as impressive structures of Aswan, not famed so much for their architecture, but rather for their location. During the Ptolemaic Dynasty, the rulers managed to extend their rule as far as Nubia in a matter of only three centuries. As they conquered, so did they build. Their temples situated along the banks of the Nile from Luxor to Aswan demonstrate not only distinctively Hellenistic architecture, but also a superior sense for location.
As you approach Egypt’s border with Sudan, find the last settlement of notable size along the southern Egyptian landscape. Abu Simbel, while small, is the perfect venture point from which to explore the fantastic temples of Abu Simbel, preserved only due to a valiant work of UNESCO.
