Awash National Park

Nestled in the lowlands east of Addis Ababa, find the glorious landscape known as Awash National Park. Situated on the banks of the Awash River, the great river flowing from through the Horn of Africa and responsible for watering the agricultural lands of Ethiopia before ending in the wilderness of the Danakil Depression, the Awash National Park is one of the finest reserves in Ethiopia. Witness the Awash River at its finest at one of the most spectacular settings in the park, the dramatic Awash Falls. Here, the mammoth river tumbles into the deep darkness of a gorge, offering a captivating visual of stunning cascades. Or, venture to the crystal pools of the Filwoha Hot Springs, another of Awash’s numerous captivating settings.

Surrounded by the dormant Fantale Volcano, the Awash National Park covers hectares of arid and semi-arid woodland and savannah, adorned with riverine forests and lush river banks. The wildlife within the park bounds is prolifically dynamic, with 46 species of animals identified including the Beisa oryx and Swayne’s hartebeest. Birding enthusiasts are also in for quite a treat as the park attracts a diverse array of rare birdlife.
