Simien Mountains
No matter how you choose to experience them, the Simien Mountains will leave you speechless. Whether a trekker challenging their strenuous hikes, where the sound of your lungs fighting for a breath after the ascension of 4200m supersedes the need for words, or a wildlife enthusiast, where the gelada baboons and plethora of other mountain inhabitants prove deserving of a description no words could give, the Simien Mountains are worth a vocabulary all their own.
Composed of several plateaus, the Simien Mountains are one of Africa’s premier mountain massif destinations. Find towering peaks that rise 4543m above ground, while broad river valleys rip through the plateaus themselves. Formed by countless eruptions some 40 million years ago, the Simien Mountains and their dynamic landscape are exquisitely dramatic, and well worth the visit.
