Kenya's Karen Blixen Coffee Garden
Karen Blixen Coffee Garden
Karen Blixen Coffee Garden is located in Karen, a beautiful, peaceful suburb approximately 20 miles from the centre of Nairobi. The area was the original estate of the Swedo African Coffee Company and Swedo House, built c.1908, which now houses the Garden’s restaurant and lounge, was the plantation manager’s house. The Karen Blixen Museum occupies the nearby Bogani House. The Coffee Garden cottages have been built in the style of the old house and are located in the midst of one of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya, which has huge jacaranda, candelabra, cactus, bottlebrush, and other trees. Over 200 types of flowers bloom through the year and numerous bird feeders attract hundreds of varieties of birds. There is a swimming pool in the gardens. The property is convenient for Nairobi and Wilson airports, the Karen Blixen Museum (½ mile) and the Nairobi National Wildlife Park, and is ideal for an overnight stay at the beginning or end of a safari.
