Kenya's Western Kenya
Maasai Mara National Reserve
This is classic Africa at its finest. A land of golden savannas, speckled with acacia trees; where the shapes of majestic game and indigenous gems stand proudly silhouetted in the pinks, purples and orange of the setting African sun. Comprising 24,860 sqkm of vast Serengeti plains in combination with neighboring Tanzania, the Maasai Mara National Reserve proves well deserving of its worldwide acclaim among travelers, researchers and poets alike.
Visit during the months of July to October and witness the roots of Maasai Mara’s international renown, the Wildebeest Migration. Here, find thousands of animals at a time move north across the Mara River in search of fertile feeding grounds. Be warned, however, as the center stage of excitement, the Mara River, through which thousands of frantic and fatigued animals must cross, is one of both triumph and defeat, where the lucky will pass unscathed, but many will perish in the jaws of the hungry predators below.
