Kakamega Forest

A breathtaking remainder of the lush tropical rainforest that once carpeted the hillsides of the region, the Kakamega Forest is a haven for many animals that have since left the remainder of the continent. Within its lush forests of tangled vines and dense undergrowth, find almost 60 species of birds found in this reserve alone, as well as the notorious flying squirrels.

This lush landscape proves of particular interest to ornithologists, who travel from all over the world to study the great blue turacos, black billed turacos, huge black and white casqued hornbills, blue headed bee eaters, brown-eared woodpeckers, shrike flycatchers and numerous other birds that reside in the Kakamega Forest and no where else in the world.
