The Warm Heart of Africa

Malawi's Lilongwe

Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve

Painted with tumbling rivers down the edge of its escarpment and lush forests of Miombo woodland, the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve is not only one of Malawi’s largest, but also one of most enchanting. Experience the epitome of true African wilderness as you hike its rugged terrain, climb its unforgiving edges and fish its bountiful waters. With a wealth of wildlife including elephant, antelope, waterbucks and buffalo, the Nkhotakota proves as rich in game as it does in spectacular scenery.

The town of Nkhotakota itself offers an interesting experience. Once the center of slave trade in the Central region, Nkhotakota is reputedly one of the oldest market towns in Africa and presents a good deal of historic sites. Wander the streets of the town or venture south to the Chia Lagoon, a large bay linked to the main lake by a narrow channel.
