Malawi's Northern Malawi
Likoma Island
While on the Mozambican side of Lake Malawi, Likoma Island and nearby neighbor Chizumulu Island, are inspiring settings included in Malawi’s long list of highlights. Measuring only 17sqkm and home to some 6000 people, Likoma has remained relatively separated from the mainland, thereby enabling the locals to maintain their reserved culture, friendly nature and a crime rate of zero.
A beautiful setting in itself, the primary allure Likoma Island has for visitors is its abundance of pristine beaches and the activities initiated upon their sands. Upon Likoma’s shores, relax amidst the open plains of Baobob trees and golden beaches fringed with Mango trees, visit with the wonderful locals or swim within the warm crystal waters that softly caress the Likoma sands.
