Namibia's Namib Desert

Walvis Bay

Just south of its more popular neighbor, lies Namibia’s second largest city. With its three congruous wetland areas, Walvis Bay Lagoon, Bird Paradise and Walvis Bay Salt Works, Walvis Bay hosts one of the most important wetland regions for migrating birds. Each year, more than 150,000 transient birds flock to the Bay for its secluded safety.

Watch the Chestnut Banded Plovers, Avocets, Damara Terns, Curlew Sandpipers and pelicans, as well as what is considered to be half the entire southern African population of flamingoes as they congregate within these unique wetland settings.
