South Africa's Cape Town
District Six
Preserving the cherished memory of one of Cape Town’s most vibrant multicultural neighborhoods, and offering a poignant reminder of one the government’s cruelest actions, the District Six Museum reflects on the colorful District Six neighborhood, and the tragedy of its destruction during the apartheid era.
Throughout the museum find street signs, photographs, life stories of the people who lived here, and a huge map where former residents can identify the sites of their homes and record their names. Each offer startling insight into this once lively area, and while there are plans to return residents to their former homes, the colorful essence of District Six will never be the same.
