Tanzania's Southern Sector
Ruaha National Park
One glimpse of the majestic baobob trees and you will fully understand why legend tells that the gods mistakenly planted the trees with the roots in the air. Throughout the year their curling branches stand bare, only producing leaves for three months at a time. Yet with a life expectancy of 3000 years, one can understand why the trees might want to conserve.
The Ruaha National Park, while it parallels the Serengeti in size, remains one of Tanzania’s least visited parks. A shame, being that Ruaha boasts more elephants than anywhere else in the country and is one of the last remaining homes to the rare African wild dog.
