Rising from the sunbaked plains of the equator find nature’s anomaly, Kilimanjaro. Best described in the words of Ernest Hemingway, Kilimanjaro is “wide as all the world, great, high, and unbelievably white in the sun,” and is one of Africa’s most spectacular destinations. Made of three extinct volcanoes, Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira, the very sight of the 5,895 at the mountain’s pinnacle is impressive indeed.
As you rise through the various altitudes, revel in the diverse array of vegetation; open grasslands give way to rain forest which transforms to rolling moors which finally gives way to the sparse vegetation of the summits. Whether aiming for the ultimate climbing success as found at Kilimanjaro’s daunting peaks or simply enjoying a casual hike along the Marangu Route, Tanzania’s infamous mammoth holds an eternal allure.
