Tanzania's Northern Sector
Momella Lakes
Just northeast of the Ngurdoto Crater, find the spectacular hues of the Momella Lakes. Created by a lava flow from nearby Mt. Meru, the Lakes each boast their own color due to the variety of mineral deposits found in each one. Like so many of the other lakes found in the Rift Valley, the Momella Lakes are shallow and alkaline.
Such a variety of mineral content equates to a spectacular diversity among the birds that come here to feed. Witness more than 400 species around this site, truly a sight not to be missed.
