Tanzania's Western Sector
Gombe Stream National Park
The mighty reputation of this infamous location, made so by the legendary work of Jane Goodall, far outweighs its relatively small size. Now in its forth decade, the work of Goodall and her study of chimpanzees and their habits, continues within the bounds of the Gombe Stream National Park. Intrigued by their behavior and ability to problem solve, Goodall spent years watching these charismatic animals, as did the remainder of the world courtesy of National Geographic.
A narrow strip of mountainous land walled by the towering escarpment of the Great Rift Valley to the east and the serene waters of Lake Tanganyika to the west, the Gombe Stream National Park boasts a rich array of habitats and an even more impressive variety of wildlife. While chimps are by far the celebrities of the park, keep an eye open for blue monkeys, red tailed monkeys and red colobus monkeys.
