Mahale Mountains National Park

Upon the eastern edge of Lake Tanganyika, find the tropical rain forest of the Mahale Mountains National Park. Home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in the world, you are sure to experience several up close and personal interactions with these phenomenal animals, particularly because of the group of Japanese researchers that have worked with the chimps here since 1965, causing the primates to become relatively comfortable around humans in general.

In addition to the yellow baboons and black-and-white colobus monkeys that share Mahale with the chimps, find a wide variety of wildlife here including brush-tailed porcupines, bushy tailed mongooses and Sharp’s grysboks.
