Uganda's Western Region
Lake Bunyoni
Lake Bunyoni and her speckling of islands are arguably one of the most beautiful settings in Uganda. Nestled on the hills that preside over Kabale, Lake Bunyoni shares her picturesque shores with Rwanda, with perfectly cultivated terraces lining the hillsides of the surrounding landscape.
The lake’s history travels back several million years, when it formed as a volcano. It is the deepest crater lake in the country as well as one of the most biologically diverse. Find a wide spectrum of birdlife amidst the lake’s forest groves, gardens and farms, while otters and frogs compose the vibrant sights and sounds of the serene waters.
