Uganda's Western Region
Murchison Falls National Park
Covering 3840 sqkm of hills, rainforest and savannah in Northwestern Uganda, the Murchison Falls National Park is the country’s largest National Park. Through its center, find the River Nile as it flows towards Lake Albert. It is the massive river flowing through an impossibly narrow 7m gap in a cleft of rock that forms the scenically stunning Murchison Falls. Forty meters below, churns the “Boiling Pot,” so named for the thunderous white water of this turbulent landmark.
The Falls themselves are said to be the most powerful natural flow of water as found anywhere on earth; a force so powerful it actually shakes the rocks through which it flows. Following the raging setting of the Falls, the river once again grows placid, calling hippos, crocodiles, waterbuck and buffalo to its wide banks. Witness the foaming white of Murchison Falls from the top, or hike the narrow trail to the bottom and feel the cool cascades on your skin. For the best view, float down the river itself, where additional scenery includes the massive crocs fond of these falls, and the enormous Nile perch responsible for the attraction.
