During the annual Great Migration, you can watch giant herds of wildebeest moving through the area right from camp. After settling into your spacious tent, kick back on your private terrace with a chilled G&T, and enjoy the peace and stillness. The ladies of Dunia will do everything to ensure your comfort. As the only camp in Africa run entirely by women, the team is an inspirational example of what women can achieve in a male-dominated industry.

Impactful Initiatives

CHEM CHEM, TARANGIRE, TANZANIA

Community is key to conservation in the Tarangire Ecosystem, which is home to a number of culturally rich, but under-resourced villages. With limited access to education and economic opportunities, it is difficult to support one’s family and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the land. Chem Chem provides English courses for the youth and women to widen the scope of their education. The introduction of a Marketplace Literacy course for women teaches the fundamentals of business, and how to start a small entrepreneurial enterprise.

DUNIA CAMP, SERENGETI, TANZANIA

Safari tourism has long been a male-dominated industry where two female guides in a vehicle are as rare as a pangolin sighting. But a camp located in the iconic Serengeti National Park is breaking these stereotypes. Dunia Camp is an all-female team from its hosts and chefs that accommodate your every need, to its guides and rangers keeping you safe and comfortable. Witness first-hand what women are capable of in the middle of the bush while enjoying the thrills of a traditional African safari. The ladies of Dunia Camp are proof that women can work in any environment if they are given the opportunity.

RIDE 4 A WOMAN, BWINDI, UGANDA

The Ride 4 A Woman organization teaches new skills and offers jobs to women in their community who struggled with poverty, HIV, and domestic violence. Since its inception in 2009, more than 300 women from 11 villages benefit from the Ride 4 A Woman community center. As a visitor, you can interact with local women and learn from them how to weave baskets, pedal sew and cook local dishes. Watch the women showcase their culture through traditional dance — or even better, you can learn to dance with them. All proceeds are put straight back into the organization to continue its initiatives.

BWINDI HOSPITAL, BWINDI, UGANDA

Uganda has one of the highest fertility rates in the world at 6.7 children per woman and has the youngest population on the planet with a median age of less than fifteen. Bwindi Hospital has a special maternity program for the 300,000 people in Kanungu District. Their goal is to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality by providing quality care and safe deliveries for all women in addition to improved access to all gynecological services, youth-friendly services, and family planning. The hospital has established strong linkages with the community working closely with the community structures including leaders and village health teams to improve birth preparedness and service uptake.

BWINDI BAR, BWINDI, UGANDA

The Bwindi Bar provides practical training for local disadvantaged youths living near the Bwindi National Park in Buhoma. Thanks to this program, trainees are armed with the appropriate skill set to go on to gain successful employment in hospitality in the Bwindi area. The bar serves a variety of coffees and teas as well as delicious breakfast options that blend international and local tastes.
