What can I expect on an African safari? This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive, so here we breakdown exactly what you can expect on your African safari, from sun-up to sundown!

On your African safari, you can expect beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, delicious food, relaxing afternoons, and great company. African hospitality is second to none!

A typical day on safari begins with an early morning game drive. Awake before the crack of dawn (don’t be surprised if you have a 5:00 a.m. wake-up call!) for a light continental breakfast before heading out on your first game drive of the day. After returning to camp, a delicious breakfast spread awaits you. If you’re looking for relaxation, you can use the “siesta” time after breakfast to enjoy your room or lounge in the main area. Don’t forget to keep your camera handy at all times – you never know when you will spot game wandering through camp. If you’re feeling more adventurous, ask a guide about other activities the camp has to offer. Each camp offers different activities, depending on location, such as guided nature walks, water activities or visits to local villages.

Early afternoon (around 3:00-4:00 pm) everyone will meet for high tea to enjoy iced tea, coffee, and some sweet treats. Head out on your afternoon game drive and before returning to camp, enjoy traditional African sundowners (drinks and cocktails.) Your guide will have your favorite drink in the safari vehicle ensuring an incredible African sunset experience. Some camps are able to offer night game drives, in which case you have the option to stay out even longer in search of wildlife.

Return to camp after at dusk to freshen up before dinner. It is not uncommon for everyone to share their safari stories at the bar before a delicious dinner under the stars. Then, if you’re up for it, join the camp staff and guides around the fire before heading back to your room for a peaceful night’s rest.

Keep in mind your day is always flexible. If you are not keen on early mornings or prefer to spend a whole day on safari making stops for picnic lunches in the bush, then you’re in luck! The friendly staff will always arrange your schedule with you the night prior to ensure you enjoy your stay. After all, it is your African safari!
